Mountford House School in Carrington was established in 1889 and held the tradition of being a small, family run Independent School, with the well-being of children at its core. In 2006 a nursery was added to the school, caring for children between the ages of 6 weeks to ten years. The school closed in 2008 when Mountford House Nursery was launched, becoming a limited company in April 2011. Our aim is to continue the Mountford House tradition of nurturing children to become confident, capable learners for life.
We are open 50 weeks of the year, closing for all Bank Holidays and one week at the end of August. We open from 8.00am-6.00pm, Monday to Friday catering for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. We have a registration of 85 children each day.
The simple statement “We aim to show children where to look but not what to see” has become embedded in our philosophy as we passionately believe that young children learn best from being able to experience the world in which they live. Using the best ideas of the Curiosity Approach we adapted and evolved further to incorporate Planning in the Moment as our ‘curriculum’. This seemed a natural progression as we believe that no matter how good you think you are, you can always be better. Our Key Person system ensures that staff have a comprehensive knowledge of the children in their care enabling them to fully support each individuals development. We are an inclusive setting. We support all children to develop to their full potential including those who may have additional needs. Our aim is to consistently enrich children’s experiences by bringing household objects and natural artefacts into our light and spacious rooms; by providing extensive opportunities for art, creativity and sensory play; and by cooking and gardening with the children. Our outdoor space is fantastic; we have a large playground, an area with rubber crumb coating and two beautiful lawns. We spend time outdoors every day as it is our aim to promote healthy, happy lives for the children in our care.
