In pre-school we build upon the good practice flowing throughout the setting regarding a love of books, stories and rhymes.
Pre-reading skills are extended by the use of name cards on pegs, trays and during ‘self register’ each morning. Toy boxes are clearly labelled and staff give meaning to words in the environment. We follow the Jolly Phonics literacy scheme, using the “Jolly Songs” CD. This is a fun way to introduce your child to phonics.
We introduce the concept of ‘term times’ following the Nottingham City Schools calendar along with a uniform and book bag. We move gently towards more structured activities throughout the pre-school year beginning in September with a daily ‘adult led’ circle time activity at approximately 9am.
We offer weekly activities such as yoga, gardening, cooking, music and movement with “Rattle and Roll”, French Fridays and Forest School sessions at a local wood.
Whilst having fun throughout the pre-school year, your child will be gently prepared for their transition to school.
